After a crash: rider checklist
Short and practical. The first days matter most.

At the scene
- Call 911 and get checked, even if adrenaline says you’re fine.
- Photograph the bike, the car, the road and any debris.
- Get the driver’s name, plate, insurance and witness contacts.
- Ask for the police report number.
Afterward
- Keep your helmet, jacket, gloves and boots. Don’t repair or toss them.
- Don’t let the bike be salvaged before it’s photographed and inspected.
- Don’t give a recorded statement to the driver’s insurer.
- Save any helmet cam or dash cam footage.
Your gear is evidence. Scrapes and damage show how and where you hit.
